Agrifood Systems – a Win for a Healthy Environment

Agricultural forms the basis of our livelihood and shelter. The agricultural system produces more than its capacity to provide for the growing population slowly depleting our natural resources by harming the ecosystems.
FAO devises appropriate solutions to conserve agricultural resources while being mindful of all ecosystems. FAO’s innovative methods involve working for a sustainable environment by providing everyone equal access to healthy food. A bio-economical circulation will result from a considerable improvement in agri-food areas such as proper waste management.

FAO’s reports suggested that plastic pollution on land is much more alarming than that in water. The 6R principle of Refuse, Redesign, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Recover can significantly bring down the agricultural problems caused by plastic pollution.

Thirdly, FAO has various projects that ensure environmental safety to equilibrate conservation and protection of natural resources to satiate growing food demands without harming the environment.

Another way is to keep a record of all sorts of environmental data about lands, soils, waters, etc. with accessibility. FAO’s geospatial platform will identify issues and help design solutions. This will let the agri-food stakeholders slay the climatic risks.

FAO should continue preserving the agricultural heritage. Food policies and product conduct codes streamline the people involved in agriculture for protecting us from harmful chemicals. Initiatives like Rotterdam Convention and ARTEMIS have found out that the degraded land can be used for generating trillions of profits by eliminating greenhouse gases.
