With the price holding its place, procurement staff expects a steady price as EU demands decrease for at least a few coming weeks. Cattle price rose by 65c/kg in the last 3 months, which is expected to fall in the coming weeks for prime heifers.

Angus and Hereford, both steers and heifers from firm breeds, mark their prices at 30c/kg, whereas grid steers record a price of €5.2 to €5.25 per kg this week.

Processors this week have rated R-grade cows at €5/kg, U-grade cows at €5.10/kg, O-grade cows at €4.80/kg, and P-grades are at €4.70/kg.

Cows loaded with flesh stay at the top with prices as high as €3.14/kg in Ballymote the previous week. Bulls of O-grade and P-grade are available at €5.15/kg and €5.20/kg.

Irish Factory Tops The Price Chart

In 11 years, the Irish R3 steer surpassed UK prices with 7c/kg. In April 2011, the Irish R3 was priced at €3.41/kg and the UK R3 at €3.40/kg.
