LISAqua (a French aquaculture company) raises funds of €4.9 million to start the first RAS shrimp farms in France. The company expected to have 10,000 tonnes of shrimps through this farm by 2030.
Moreover, the company collaborated with Litto Invest, Le Gouessant Agricultural Cooperative, and other private investors to raise €2.6 million more. With the increase in capital, the non-dilutive funding worth €2.3 million from CIC Ouest banks, Credit Maritime, and Bpifrance also get completed.
CEO of LISAqua, Gabriel Boneu, believed that they can make better structure strategic partnerships and recruit more people with the help of this Funding. Ultimately, this raise in the capital will help them scale up their business. In the scale-up plan, they have a goal to build a farm network in the vicinity of major French cities. In this way, the company aims to increase the availability of ultra-fresh shrimp to maximum people.
States indicate an import of 290,000 tonnes and 80,000 tonnes of frozen shrimps into Europe and France. LISAqua aims to reduce this import in Europe and France by 10,000 tonnes per year by 2030.
Future Goals
LISAqua has been involved in the research and development for the construction of a shrimp farm in France for three years. However, this funding has made the construction possible. This shrimp farm will start production in the spring of 2022 and is expected to produce 10 tonnes of shrimp per year. Thus, this 2000 m2 farm can serve several local fishmongers.
Associate investment director at Go Capital, Herve Bachelot Lallier, believes that this new financing round will accelerate the development journey of the LISAqua towards the farm development in major cities of France. Moreover, he believe that the days are not far when LISAqua will be leading player in the production of local shrimps by using their own production systems.
To gain expertise in feed manufacturing and shrimp nutrition, LISAqua has also collaborated with the Le Gouessant agriculture.

LISAqua Adopted Innovative Perm aquaculture approach
Deeptech was founded in 2018 with only 15 employees by Charlotte Schoelinck ( marine biologist), Gabriel Boneu (an entrepreneur), and Caroline Madoc ( an engineer). The start-up aims to develop a production system with low environmental impact, thus; revolutionizing the aquaculture industry.
To achieve its aim, LISAqua has developed an innovative co-culture technology, perm aquaculture. In this technology, the company combined marine invertebrates, micro-organisms, and shrimps in indoor aquaculture farms. With the technology, the organization can start shrimp farming without using antibiotics. Moreover, this technology enables mangroves conservation and water conservation by 99%. Even it is possible to use the effluents from the shrimp farm. These effluents are treated and then used as feed for the breeding of marine invertebrates.
