In the west of Africa, Yams is considered as a brad food. Moreover it is also a biggest producer of yams globally. It holds a great value with respect of fulfilling the needs of food in their country, getting out of economic crises and to improve its overall culture and structure in the most effective and least expensive way.

Often people have the perception without even tried it that it taste like sweet potatoes especially in US. But this is not true as the features, characteristics and shape everything is different from sweet potatoes. Yams are more wider and dry. In Asia and Africa, it is used as a native food but surprisingly in America, they are not found in their original form. In west Africa, although they use it commonly still there is no concern over it’s better production and genetics research.

    Experiment:

A researcher named Shinsuke Yamanaka made a study along with some members to

identify and keenly observe it’s genetics and biological factors to further identify it’s effective breeding process. The main objective of the research was to get the detailed analysis of seeds of yams to know how to grow it effectively. The whole team focused on building constructive results on the basis of relevant research techniques to help future endeavors and industrialists to get the research done, all they need to do is to use it for making prosperous conclusions which can be beneficial for it. White Genoa yam is more appropriate form having economic worth.

    Characteristics of yams:

In tropical and subtropical districts of Africa, their people are fully dependent on the production of yams as thief food for survival but it is also a fact that it take a lot of hard work and dedication to grow yams. It took around 11 months to one year to grow with it’s original pace, additionally it has some other complications of even and odd flowers that can take different span of times to breed. All these steps must be done with extreme care and cautiousness to avoid any loss or mishap. With the advanced tools and methods, these seeds can be grown in less time, with more taste and resistance from pests and more healthier, which is more advantageous for all it’s consumers.  It takes many years to evaluate and select the plant with best properties that has to be chosen for parenting. Parenting means creating a new plant with the previous one.

    Results and analysis of experiment:

The experiment or research says that getting the exact genetics information is too hard and time taking. Still they are not sure about that, while considering this scenario, they introduced molecular marker which is a kind of DNA testing of plants, in this method you don’t need to precisely observe and evaluate it’s each and every details and characteristics, the result of DNA will show it’s properties to help you generate results. Out of 400 plants which were taken for experiment through DNA, only 100 were found different on which further action can be taken.

This sample will be easier to do further evaluation as compare to testing all 400 plants, the motive of this research was to make it easier for researchers and observers to finalize conclusions based on tested yams plants. Breeding is not an easier process, technology has made things convenient for us to determine the facts and use it for getting organic and natural breed of yams which must be suitable for farmers, consumers, researchers and economic growth with consistency and diversity
